On the Easel: Returning to the Bugaboos

I started this painting about fifteen years ago, then set it aside—one of those pieces that quietly waited for the right time. It’s based on a photo I took of Snow Patch Spire in the Bugaboos of British Columbia, captured from high on Bugaboo Spire. That day was extraordinary—clear light, vast peaks, and a sense of being suspended between earth and sky. It feels right to finally bring that moment to completion.
I may crop the painting to focus more closely on the spire itself, to draw attention to its dramatic form and the feeling it gave me that day.
The Bugaboos hold many memories for me—adventures with close friends, countless summits, and quiet moments in one of the most magical mountain ranges I’ve ever known.
Now, years later, I’m returning to finish what I began. And I can only believe it will be better for the time that has passed.
